Below are answers to some very basic questions and answers.
- What happens when I become a client at Ribbeck Law Chartered?
Litigation is new to most clients. We make sure that the families understand each step of the way. A case starts by your family signing an "Authority to Represent" contract. This gives attorneys at Ribbeck the authority to act on behalf of each client.
- What will it cost to hire Ribbeck to represent me?
Our fees are standard and the costs of the case are advanced by our firm in all of the cases involving a claim for injury (physical or psychological) and/or death. Families do not have to pay any fees or costs unless we recover monies from the liable parties.
- I don't live in the United States. I live in another country and my family members live in other countries. How can Ribbeck work with me when you are headquartered in the United States?
In an aviation disaster, many companies may be liable. Many of these companies are located in the United States, therefore, and cases against these companies are handled through the United States court system. Also, many firms are insured through large insurance companies located in London. We are able to handle law suits originating from England and Wales – all the way up to the Queen's Court if need be.
Ribbeck handles all of the aspects of litigation in the United States. Plus, we will hire local law firms (where you live) as needed to help any family member with any legal issues. We will also immediately retain an expert or experts to investigate the cause of the disaster. We will then move to initiate legal procedures to protect the rights of our clients. During the litigation of the case, we encourage our clients to get involved with all of the aspects of the case.
- Our family has a lawyer that we have always used. I would feel more comfortable if s/he were involved in any lawsuit. Would that be a problem?
It would not be a problem at all. We often work with our client's attorney. We are happy to collaborate and encourage you to include any other experts/professionals you feel comfortable helping you through these trying times.
- How can I pursue a lawsuit against an airline if the airplane crash was an accident?
Catastrophic events like an airline crash are rarely "accidents." They are usually due to human and/or mechanical failures. Airlines are responsible for maintaining the highest level of maintenance for an aircraft, and they are responsible for ensuring that their flight crews are experienced enough to handle any unusual situations they may encounter. Companies that build the parts for aircraft are also responsible for ensuring the integrity of those parts.
At Ribbeck, we immediately deploy our expert teams to analyze crash sites and determine how an aviation tragedy occurred. We then work to find recourse with those who are responsible for the tragedy. We also work with companies and even governments to change protocol or laws if there is a system failure to try to ensure such a catastrophe never again occurs.
